The team from Voice of Disability Initiative, led by Executive Director Barr. Catherine Edeh, visited the Ministry of Health Ebonyi State to advocate for the sexual and reproductive health and rights of women and girls and to address gender-based violence in Ebonyi State.
During the visit, Barr. Catherine while addressing the SA to the Community emphasized the need for the Commissioner to urge the state government to create disability desk offices in hospitals and government facilities and to employ sign language interpreters to accommodate the communication needs of deaf women and girls.
The commissioner who earlier fixed appointment with the team, travelled out the state on urgent impromptu assignment and could not attend to the team in person; but the SA who welcomed the team on behalf of the Commissioner promised to convey all the key recommendations of the team towards improving access to health for women and girls with disabilities in Ebonyi State to the Hon. Commissioner upon his return.
