Federal Ministry of Health Marks International Day of Persons with Disabilities in Collaboration with VDI and Partners

On December 9, 2024, the Federal Ministry of Health, in collaboration with the Voice of Disability Initiative (VDI) and other partners, hosted a program to commemorate the International Day of Persons with Disabilities. The event took place at Reiz Continental Hotel, Abuja, bringing together key stakeholders to celebrate and address critical issues affecting persons with disabilities.

 

During the event, Mr. Edward Ogenyi, Program Manager of VDI, delivered a goodwill message on behalf of the Executive Director, Barr. Catherine Edeh. He highlighted the importance of collaborative efforts in advancing the rights and well-being of persons with disabilities.

Barr. Catherine Edeh, Executive Director of VDI, extended her gratitude to all stakeholders present and applauded the Federal Ministry of Health for partnering with VDI in reviewing the National Policy on Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights for Persons with Disabilities. She emphasized the urgent need for targeted interventions addressing the unique challenges faced by women and girls with disabilities, who often experience compounded discrimination due to their gender and disability status.

Barr. Edeh concluded her remarks with a call to action, urging stakeholders to prioritize inclusive policies and programs that empower and protect women and girls with disabilities.
