Voice of Disability Initiative has distributed palliatives to over 30 needy people and women with disabilities in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
Executive Director, Barrister Catherine Onyinye Edeh in a chat with Inclusive News Network (INN) said “this was a way for the organization to reduce the effect of hunger and to help the beneficiaries stay safe.”
The palliatives which contained rice, beans, garri, spaghetti, sardine, salt, maggi, sanitary pads, satchets of tomatoes, red oil, pouch, face masks, hand gloves and sanitizers, was distributed at the home office of the organization as well as at the Surich Garden Wuse Zone 7 on Saturday, 4th July.
INN learnt that Bar. Catherine and a resource person, Anna Anichebe had sensitized the beneficiaries before the distribution of the relief materials.
Catherine added “I was so happy seeing many of them going with two sackful of palliatives that will last them and their families for weeks. The very needy ones with kids were given two sackful. The bachelors and spinsters one sackful each. This is our 2nd phase. 1st phase was in small cash sent to some needy PWDs in FCT”
“We shared 20 bags at the wuse garden plus the 10 given us by Network of Disabled Women (NDW), making it 30. Thereafter, more people have come to our place to get the remaining. So we have over 30 beneficiaries”
When asked if more PWDs had reached out for more since the day of the distribution of relief materials.
She said “Yes. Today (Wednesday) alone, I’ve been reached to share to 10 needy PWDs (women) in Bwari. We gave to the first four that came a day or two after the palliatives were shared, till we ran out of stock. We therefore advised the rest to try searching for other NGOs while we continue looking for how to get more palliatives to reach more of them”
Expressing appreciation to the donors for the gesture, Bar Catherine said “Thanks to Lois Auta, Network of Disabled Women, Chidi Olujie and supporters of VDI including those who requested to stay anonymous.”

The executive director therefore called for more donations to reach more people. “We’re still open for donations to reach more people. Your little contribution will go a long way in making a difference.
