Empowering Adolescent Girls with Disabilities: Life Skills Training and Sensitization Meeting at Golden Tulip Apartments and Resort, Bayelsa – Day 1

On November 18, 2024, Voice of Disability Initiative (VDI) hosted a transformative Life Skills Training program for adolescent girls with disabilities (AGWD), alongside a sensitization meeting for their parents and caregivers, at the Golden Tulip Apartments and Resort, Bayelsa State.

Highlights of the Event include:

Encouraging Adolescent Girls with Disabilities
The Executive Director of VDI, Barr. Catherine Edeh, inspired the participants during a keynote session, encouraging them to embrace their potential and prepare for a bright future. Her words of motivation set the tone for the day’s activities.

 

Self-Awareness Session
The Life Skills Training included a powerful self-awareness session, where the participants, part of Batch B1, engaged in activities designed to build their confidence and foster a better understanding of their strengths and aspirations.

Sensitization Meeting with Parents and Caregivers
As part of the program, VDI’s Program Manager led an engaging session for parents and caregivers, focusing on effective ways to support children with disabilities. This session emphasized the importance of creating a nurturing and enabling environment at home.

 

Role-Playing Activities
The training featured an interactive role-playing exercise that highlighted the importance of effective communication and active listening skills. This activity aimed to equip the participants with tools for better interpersonal interactions.

Icebreaker and Energizer Session
An icebreaker and energizer session brought an element of fun and relaxation, energizing the participants and creating a vibrant atmosphere for learning and engagement.
