VDI ADVOCATES FOR INCLUSIVE LEGAL EDUCATION AT NIGERIAN LAW SCHOOL, BWARI
The visit featured a delegation comprising lawyers and advocates with disabilities, including members of the VDI team who shared personal experiences of the challenges they faced while studying law. They highlighted the lack of accessible facilities, non-availability of Braille or audio materials for blind students, and absence of sign language interpretation in lectures. Their testimonies sparked meaningful dialogue with the school’s leadership on the reforms needed to make legal education inclusive. Key recommendations discussed include the installation of ramps and accessible signage, provision of learning materials in Braille and audio formats, and the introduction of sign language services for deaf students. The Director-General of the Law School expressed openness to partnership and affirmed the institution’s commitment to exploring actionable steps to make their campuses more inclusive. VDI sees this as a breakthrough in engaging stakeholders to make professional training pathways accessible to all, including persons with disabilities. The visit forms part of a broader strategy to ensure that no aspiring legal mind is left behind because of disability.
