Our Impact

Disabled voices in policy making leads to more inclusive and effective legislation. People with lived experiences can identify gaps and barriers that might be overlooked by non-disabled policymakers.

Rights of Persons with Disabilities

  • VDI actively participated in the CSOs advocacy that led to eventual enactment of the Discrimination Against Persons with Disabilities (Prohibition) Act 2018.
  • Led the Civil Society advocacy for the passage of Enugu State Disabilities Right Bill into law in 2023.
  • VDI contribute to the Civil Society advocacy which eventually led to the passage of the bill for a law to establish the Ebonyi State Disability Right Commission (Establishment) law and other matters thereto, 2025.
  • VDI’s advocacy also led to the establishment Special Education Centre at Enugu State University of Technology.
  • VDI’s advocacy led to the employment of number of PWD in Nasarawa State.
  • Advocacy and Awareness: VDI has successfully influenced the implementation of the Discrimination Against Persons with Disability (Prohibitions) Act 2018 through targeted advocacy campaigns and community-based education.
