To address the underlying factors driving discrimination and exclusion against Persons with Disabilities (PWDs), we focus on five key thematic areas. These areas, when robustly pursued, will create an enabling environment that supports inclusivity, equality, and empowerment for PWDs.
VDI is committed to raising awareness about the protection of the rights of women, girls, and children with disabilities. Through community-based education and targeted advocacy campaigns, we engage elected officials, public institutions, and regulatory agencies to ensure offenders are held accountable. Our goal is to create a society where the rights of PWDs are respected and upheld.
We advocate for equal access to education for persons with disabilities, ensuring accessible learning environments for all disability clusters. VDI works to eliminate discrimination and stigmatization in educational settings, promoting a culture of inclusivity and equal opportunities for PWDs to thrive academically and socially.
Gender-Based Violence (GBV) remains a significant challenge for women and girls with disabilities in Nigeria, with many cases going unreported due to fear and lack of awareness. VDI addresses this issue by empowering women and girls with disabilities through education, advocacy, and support systems to combat GBV and promote gender equality.
VDI prioritizes the Sexual and Reproductive Health (SRH) of women and girls with disabilities, ensuring access to medical facilities, menstrual hygiene management, and Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH) services. We work to break down barriers to healthcare access, promoting the overall well-being of PWDs.
We empower women, girls, and children with disabilities by improving their access to livelihoods. Through market system development (MSD), life-skills training, and access to finance, VDI equips PWDs with the knowledge and resources to earn sustainable incomes and achieve economic independence.
